Infrared Thermography as it is applied Pd.M. Inspections

Infrared thermography is applied to electrical / mechanical equipment for conducting predictive /preventative maintenance. It is based on viewing all of the selected equipment with the infrared imager and determining if it has a problem. If an issue is discovered at the time of the inspection, then it is stored digitally in the IR camera along with additional information that allows for an accurate documentation of the problem.

There is a lot of misconceptions as to how electrical infrared inspections are done, especially when compared to mechanical infrared inspections of rotating equipment, bearings/shafts and gearboxes.
