Job description:  IR Technician

Colbert Infrared Services, Inc., a full-service Infrared Inspection Company is seeking resumes for an IR Technician in the Seattle, WA area. IR Technician candidates will have three months on-the-job training and are expected to qualify as Level I Certified Thermographer within six months of initial employment.

As a Level I Certified Thermographer you will be assigned to a variety of inspection sites to observe energized electrical equipment using a state-of-the art infrared camera. You will be required to enter data into the Thermal Trend database using a data collection device (such as a Surface Pro 4 tablet). You will be the Company’s representative to the client’s engineering staff and expected to present a professional appearance, maintain high standards of personal hygiene, and communicate with the client in a professional and friendly manner. At the end of each day, and upon completion of a multi-day inspection, you will be required to prepare an interim and then final digital report in .pdf format to deliver electronically to the client. Other types of inspections will be performed on top of flat roofs to observe roof moisture problems, and occasionally you will be expected to perform building envelope studies to observe and document heat loss.

The inspection sites will be in a variety of environments such as paper mills, outdoor utility transmission lines, dams, retail stores, large high-end hotels, aboard cruise, and cargo ships, and in office buildings.

May be required to work holidays and weekends.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Education – High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum four years full time successful employment supporting a strong work ethic, preferably in an industrial setting. The prospective candidate must be willing and able to learn how to perform all technologies through on the job training within 3 months of hire.
  • Aptitude – Maintenance and mechanical aptitude preferred.
  • Attitude – Safety First; Customer Service; Strong work ethic; Reliable; Team player.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving history for at least 3 years, able to rent a car.
  • Current passport or ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to pass background check to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card for access to work at docks and other security clearances for specific clients.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

EXPECTATIONS*

  • ‘Willingness to travel 60 -80% domestically and internationally. Overtime work may be required. Workdays will vary.
  • Willingness to work in industrial environments (heavy/industrial equipment, heights, dirt, and noise), and to handle prolonged exposure to outside weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.)
  • Ability to function aboard ship without seasickness.
  • Technically proficient with solid skills using Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel. Ability to quickly learn Thermal Trend database; willing to learn new software programs and adapt to new hardware.
  • Willing to submit to mandatory and random drug testing.
  • Smoking – Our work environments are 100% non-smoking, including during travel to work sites.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment of when to ask for clarification of assignments.
  • Able to climb up and down interior/exterior ladders to access roofs (minimum of 20 ft.) and carry basic hand tools, equipment and/or material up to approx. 50 lbs.
  • Capable of walking along roof top edges (no fear of heights, good balance, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Some tasks will require the ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.
  • Some sites require observing overhead power lines, thus looking up above one’s head, for full workdays.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment (including respirators), as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Relocation: Ideally, candidates will reside within a 50-mile radius of Seattle, WA.
